Crater Lake is in the Cascade Mountains, which extend from northern California to Canada. Created by a volcano's eruption, this is the deepest lake in the United States, with a depth of 1,932 feet.

North America has many large, densely populated areas made up of cities and their suburbs. New York City, as seen here from the top of the Empire State Building, is the largest urban area in the United States, with about seven and a half million people.

Part of the vast urban area, or megalopolis, that extends along the Atlantic coast is Washington, D.C. The White House, the home and offices of the President of the United States, is a major attraction for tourists around the world.

The Rocky Mountains have a wealth of mineral resources. This part of the range, in Utah, is dotted with gold and silver mines.
