The world's major religions began, and are still being practiced, in Asia. Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all started in Asia. Often hundreds of years old, churches, mosques, shrines, and temples are found in both rural and urban areas throughout Asia. This is a Buddhist place of worship in Kathmandu, Nepal. For centuries, Tibetan Buddhists have displayed these colorful prayer flags outside homes and places of worship. The flags are five different colors - blue, white, red, yellow, and green - and have sacred symbols, prayers, and special chants called mantras written on them. |
