The world's major religions began, and are still being practiced, in Asia. Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all started in Asia. Often hundreds of years old, churches, mosques, shrines, and temples are found in both rural and urban areas throughout Asia. This is a Buddhist place of worship in Kathmandu, Nepal. For centuries, Tibetan Buddhists have displayed these colorful prayer flags outside homes and places of worship. The flags are five different colors - blue, white, red, yellow, and green - and have sacred symbols, prayers, and special chants called mantras written on them.     
 
Shanghai      More than half of the world's population lives on the continent of Asia. Almost four billion people live on this continent. The majority of the population lives along rivers, in mountain valleys, or near coasts. Some of the most densely populated areas in the world are in Asia. This is Tokyo, the largest urban area in the world and the capital and main business center of Japan.
 
Asia is a land of many customs, languages, religions, and ways of life. This variety of cultures is reflected in homes across the continent. This Korean home is called an eave-tiled roof house.
